Over the last few years, Google has made loads of changes to their algorithm to help small businesses get found locally. The biggest change has come in the form of Google My Business. You may have seen and been using Google My Business without even realising it in the form of the knowledge card when you are searching for a business or service locally.
Google my business allows you to tell Google who you are, what your business does and how customers can get in touch with you. The best bit of Google My Business? It’s totally free. Yep, no lie. So besides being a free tool from Google, how else can using Google My Business help you get found online?
Get ranked on Google
Registering your business is the quickest way to ensure that Google can find your website without any prior, techy know-how too. It is super easy to sign up, you just search for your business and enter few details about where you are based and your online presence. Once Google has all this info, they will send a postcard out to your registered address to prove you are who you say and that’s it! Give it a few days and your knowledge card will start appearing when you Google your business name. Now you know for your that Google is indexing your site.
Get on the Map
A study from Google showed that 50% of mobile users who performed a local search then went on to visit that store in person. For businesses with a shop front, it is vital that your customers can find you so they can purchase in person. Using Google My Business allows business owners to manage their location on Google Maps. Your customers will be able to find your business and get directions from wherever they are.
If you move premises or expanding the business into multiple locations, it can now be managed in your account, no need to wait for Google to crawl your website and update it. In fact, you don’t even need to have a website to get on the maps anymore. You can link to your social networks or leave out the information until your online presence is ready to share with the world!
Get Customers to engage with your brand
With the knowledge card, you can share lots of helpful information with your customers. Opening hours, services, locations and reviews are all on display. The added bonus of Google My Business is that you can see what your customers are clicking on in your knowledge card. Are they wanting to find out your opening hours? Contact details? Or are they taking their time looking over images of your shop or products?
In the dashboard area of Google My Business, you can see exactly what your customers are after so you can give them more of the same. The tool also works seamlessly with Google Analytics so you can integrate the two. You can find out what the customer searched to get to your knowledge card, where they clicked and then what they did on your website!
